Ephemeral

A SaaS product rebuilt around the one task people actually came for

Ephemeral had grown by adding surface area. Every release added a panel, and the thing most people signed up to do had been pushed three clicks deep.

The problem

Support tickets clustered around the first session rather than around any single feature. People were not failing to use the product; they were failing to find it.

We mapped the first ten minutes of forty accounts and found the same detour in almost all of them.

What we changed

The primary task moved to the first screen, and everything that had been competing with it moved behind a single, honest secondary nav.

The design system was rebuilt at the same time so the change could hold: one spacing scale, one type ramp, and components that carry their own states.

Where it landed

Activation moved within the first month, and the tickets that had clustered around onboarding largely stopped arriving.
